Predicted Hair Style Trends for 2010
Tuesday January 12, 2010
The New Year is upon us and we all feel like getting a new look to suit our fresh start, yet what is the ';look' to go for? While the old adage to only ';dress in what suits you' remains true of hair styles as well, most of us want to incorporate the latest trends into our look to achieve a certain edge and style. So what will be the dominating trends in the hair salon for 2010 and just what will be the one to suit you?
Short Hair continues to impress
It seems we are on to a good thing gauging from the popularity that short hair cuts still receives. While the Victoria Beckham bob, or the "Pob" as it were, has evolved now after two years reigning the short hair style wish list, with the Pixie bob returning in 2010 for all those daring to go as short as can be. Precision cut bobs will also be very popular for women wanting a hard, edgy look which means sleek straight hair with blunt fringes that frame the face perfectly. Of course a word of warning, this is a dramatic look that requires some effort so only those with the right face shape and willingness to do their hair of a morning should consider.
Yet the bob is far more versatile in 2010 with options ranging from tiny ear levels cuts to wavy shoulder skimming lengths, even the Mod look is returning from those of us who love uneven lengths. Curly bobs are also making a resurgence for a casual twist on a classic style.
There is also the Page Boy look where the hair length skims the shoulders and usually flips into the face. This is a very popular option for those who may be growing out their "Pob" haircuts. Also there are short spiky styles, similar to the Pixie do which is ideal for thin and angular faces or for those who don't have time to style their hair.
Long, soft and wavy
While short hair is certainly dominating a lot of hair salons, it is by no means a bad time to have long hair with a strong return to length. In particular two opposing looks that can be achieved with long hair: either long dead straight hair parted in the centre of the head and soft wavy curls with either a side part or centre part. Things to consider when going for long hair include what exact length and the texture of the hair. What is your hair volume like? Your face shape? What styles of hair are complimentary to these two factors? This could mean the introduction of fringes, angle cuts, layering, blunts cuts and edges and side parting.
Colour choices
While the question of colour is all about personal preference, there is a push towards more natural colours with many people advised to simply go with what they were born with as that is usually the best colour for them. Of course, that being said there is a predicted that dark, rich browns will be very popular this year with some even getting highlights of red throughout.
Blondes are moving away from the white blonde look with natural warm blondes picked for popularity in 2010 while reds should also lean towards the natural red look with minimal brassiness.
However, one predicted trend that will bring a surprising and new twist to the hair salon industry is the move towards grey hair. In particular, dove grey or soft grey's with a blonde base.
However, when it comes to colour it really comes down to what compliments the individual's skin tone.
Hair styles
So now that we have covered what cuts and colours are picked to be popular in 2010, what styles are predicted to lead the trends? To put it simply, pony tails and big up do's are going to be big in 2010.
Ponytails will be worn either high or low with a sleek finish ideal for both, making them ideal for most occasions. Ponytails are highly versatile from a casual tossed look to low sleek ponytails at the base of the head for a modern and sophisticated look.
Handy tips for achieving a great ponytail include doing the style when the hair is still slightly damp for a smoother finish, parting hair on different angles or centre for different looks and straightening your hair one in the style for a clean straight finish.
Big up do's that add significant height to the hair are predicted as a major trend for evening wear in 2010 as it will accentuate the neck and shoulders (perfect for a strapless gown) while adding height to the overall look.
