Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make my hair/dreads grow faster? We are all individuals and our hair grows at different speed. This is a process that occurs according to the nutrition we have, stimulating the hair follicles helps too as it increases blood flow which increases the rate of growth among other factors. Can you dye or bleach dreads? Yes, you can bleach, put color on… If you are game, we advise you to play with colors, they look fantastic. Dying or bleaching process will leave the dreads a bit dry. We advise you to bleach or color after the hair is well locked, about 10 to 12 weeks. Remove all wax, oils, and sticky residue from the hair with our clarifying shampoo. Hard on grease! (Seek profesional advise) Don't over bleach it because the dreads can get dry and brittle and possibly break off. After you bleach your dreads they will feel dry and tight, use a little gel spray to make them round and replace the nutrients with a none oily based moisturizer Can dreads be cut and kept short? Yes they can be cut and cutting them is pretty easy; but make sure the ends wont unravel: it is the tricky part. Make sure of the size you want and cut them uniformly. Cut the dread at an angle instead of straight across. After you cut it, roll the dreads on the palm of your hands with our Dreads Care Spray, and we advice to wax the ends. We recommend cutting dreads that are already tight, cutting dreads that are not tight is not an easy task. It's probably better to wait till they are tight, patience! Cut one at a time and see how it turns out. Make sure it works and looks good before you cut all of them. Use your common sense so you’ll not regret as soon as they are on the floor. How do I dread my roots as they grow? Waxing them as the hair grows is essential! Roll the dreads between your palms and your finger as routine will helps! Blackberries “hard- on hair wax,” comes with full instructions on how to re wax your dreads at the roots. We also have a in salon service technique known as interlocking weave. Will my hair grow when I have dreadlocks? Your hair will grow as usual when you have dreadlocks, you may think your hair is growing slower, but it isn't .The natural gravitational pull and the weight from the dead hair which falls out each day will cause your hair to grow quite fast How long does my hair have to be to make dreadlocks? Your hair should be at least three inches long to start dreadlocks. Can I just let my braids turn into dreads? Absolutely, they’ll take “ages” to look anything like dreadlocks eventually the natural process of hair falling out and not being combed will be turned into natural dreads! You can have a go if you want… If I get dreadlocks and I don't like them will I have to shave my hair? You can cut or shave your head if you want. Sure this is the fastest way to remove the dreadlocks !!! However there are ways to take dreadlocks out: *Cut the deadlocks at about 3 inches long and then soak the rest of the dreadlocks in blackberries “hard on dread remover elixir” and comb them out. You are still left with about 4 or 5 inches of hair. If you want to keep all you hair, soak the dreadlocks in the same elixir and comb them out, be patient – it is a slow process!!! (you may use a large needle or something with a sharp point to help with the process) Don’t worry if you see lots of hair coming out, we loose on average 100 “hairs” a day – just think how long you have had your dreads for. Dreadlocks keep all the hair that would otherwise be lost anyway! Can I dread my hair by myself? Sure you can, with a little know how! It's a little difficult, well to tell the truth it's more than a little difficult. There is a trick you can use to get your friends to help – start it off, call them to come around, have few drinks and snacks for them. It is a great way to catch up with a few friends at once and the job is going to be much quicker… But you have to put in some effort by starting the job. GOOD LUCK!
