Hair Styling Tips
Our hair is our crowning glory. It could either make or break a certain look we are aiming for, and it could also imbalance the appearance of our own features. At times, people think of their own hair as part of their personality; like some sort of social symbol that makes them distinctive in their own way.
There are times when individuals feel as if they need a change of hairstyle but not to the point of going for something drastic. One should not impulsively rush into a new haircut without knowing what their face shape is. Haircuts actually vary from one person to the other. A short bob may look good on someone but would not necessarily look that good on another. It is crucial to determine your own face shape first before trying out a new hairstyle.
There are different types of face shapes:
1. Oblong (The length of the face is not proportion to its width; meaning that the length is long and the width is narrow.)
- The Perfect Hairstyle: Short bobs and other short haircuts look best on people with oblong faces. Side swept bangs or no bangs at all are also perfect for this type of face shape. However, one has to avoid mid length hair and styles that add up to the height of the crown since these tend to make the face longer.
2. Oval (The face is round; the length and width almost have the same proportion. The jaw line and forehead share the same width.)
- The Perfect Hairstyle: Any type and length look best on people with oval faces as long as they avoid getting bangs that tend to cover their facial features.
3. Round (The shape is circular and that the length and width are almost equal.)
- The Perfect Hairstyle: Middle length haircuts and styles that have volume create an illusion of a narrower length. It also conceals those who have puffy or broad cheeks. Avoid extremely short haircuts or those that tend to add volume to the sides of the face.
4. Square (The jaw line is angular. The forehead is prominent and broad.)
- The Perfect Hairstyle: Side swept bangs and short to medium hair look perfect on someone who has a square shaped face. It lessens the prominence of the forehead and jaw line. It is highly advisable to avoid straight cut bangs since they tend to emphasize the square-like appearance of the face.
5. Diamond (High cheekbones accompanied by a narrow jaw line and forehead.)
- The Perfect Hairstyle: Whispy bangs and long layers look perfect for someone who has high cheekbones and narrow facial structures. The said hairstyle creates an illusion of livelier and balanced features. On the flip side, try to avoid mid-length cuts and those that add volume to the top.
6. Triangular (The forehead and cheekbones are relatively narrow while the jaw line is prominent.)
The Perfect Hairstyle: Layered hairstyles that taper down to the jaw line look best with people with asymmetrical features. These give an illusion of a narrower jaw line. Avoid styles that tend to draw more attention to the jaw’s prominence.
