Finding the Perfect Hairstyle for You

Finding the perfect hairstyle is a common dilemma that everyone faces at some stage in their lives – haircuts that will make you look good and feel good. A hairstyle makes such a big difference to transform one’s look, so you would always want to get it right. Fortunately, you would only have to remember the two secrets to great haircuts:

•    First is to figure out the shape of your face. By doing so, you wouldn’t have to go through the ‘trial and error’ stage and it will be so much easier to recognize what cuts and styles will best flatter your face.

•    And secondly, touch and feel your hair as some hairstyles may not work well due to the hair’s texture.

Identifying your face shape is easy. All you need is a mirror and a tube of lipstick. Face the mirror and trace the outline of your face with the lipstick on the mirror. Step back and study the shape you have drawn.

•    Oval – Any style suits shit shape! Experiment and play with all the different hairstyles and discover what suits you best.

•    Round – Must keep the hair flat on the sides as the aim here is to elongate your face. Rounded, curly and short hairstyles will only make the face rounder.

•    Heart – A heart-shaped face is defined by a narrow chin and a wide forehead. This shape needs a cut that hides the hairline – side-swept bangs would do the trick. Best to have it with long and wavy hairstyles and avoid layers.

•    Square/Angular – It will be good to play with curls and sleek cuts with layers that begin from the jawline and downward. Stay clear from cuts that will give your jawline a stronger, angular look.

•    Long/Oblong – For a long face shape, focus on giving your hair volume, bounce and flavour. Having your hair too long and straight will drag your face down.

Here are a few tips and tricks to help you decide a great cut for you:

•    Narrow your style options to the cuts that flatter your face shape; emphasize your features; and fit your maintenance criteria.

•    Do not settle for a cut that makes you look 10 years younger, or a cut that makes you more mature than your actual age. Yes, it may look good but you have to ask yourself, is this you? Your hair is somehow a definition of who you are – so best to settle for a hairstyle that you are comfortable with and a style that is appropriate for you.

•    Some will always settle for the look they’ve been accustomed to, yes you can stick with your favourite style but update it in little ways – like giving your appearance a boost by colouring it or trimming it.

•    One of the tricks is for you to work with a stylist who focuses on three key factors: bone structure, hair’s texture, and preferred maintenance level.

To sum it all up, do whatever you want with your hair. We all get to that stage where we want to experiment and try all the looks. If something goes wrong, don’t you worry because hair grows back!
