All About Hair Colour
People dye their hair for a number of reasons. It could be that:
1. They would want to go for a new look that they have been wanting to try out
2. They want to be in trend
3. They want to emphasize the natural color of their hair
4. They want to cover the grey strands of hair they already have
We may also view hair coloring as part of our culture. Not only does this process help one become fully satisfied with their appearance, but it can also be an outlet of a person’s expression akin to that of the art of wearing clothes.
There are a couple of things that one needs to consider before choosing the perfect hair color that would compliment his or her personal style and personality. First and foremost, if your natural hair color is brown, it is highly advisable to opt for a lighter shade. You can also get highlights to emphasize it. Bear in mind that opting for an extremely dark shade could make you appear older for your age whilst washing out your natural beauty. For blondes, highlights are also optional. According to various online resources, a lot of blondes would look good in any color; but there are also some whose own facial features merely do not blend well with darker hues. It is best to consult with a professional stylist if you are having troubles in regards to choosing the right color for you. For those who want to go red, the important thing is to find the perfect shade for you. Red isn’t a one size fits all color.
There are different classifications of hair colors:
a. Temporary hair color. These are available in different forms such as hair coloring foams, shampoos, gels, sprays, and more. Temporary hair colors basically come in brighter hues in contrast to permanent hair colors. Normally, it is used in special occasions like Halloween parties and the like.
b. Demi-permanent hair color basically pertains to a type of hair coloring solution that consists of an alkaline compound aside from ammonia. This is normally used to cover grey hair in an effective manner. The main advantage of demi-permanent hair color is that it does not completely affect the natural shade of the hair, so the development of hair damages in the long run is put to a minimum.
c. Semi-permanent hair color can withstand the test of repeated shampooing or washes. This type of hair dye has lower levels of hydrogen peroxide which means that it is the safest alternative for those who have fragile or damaged hair.
d. Hair bleaching is the process of using ammonium and hydrogen peroxide to strip of the natural color of the hair to make it appear lighter. Semi permanent or permanent hair color is usually applied after bleaching. However, the downside of bleaching is that it makes the hair more vulnerable to damages such as dryness and split ends.
Hair coloring application techniques:
a. Highlighting. This pertains to the act of sectioning the hair and coloring those sections with lighteners which aim to create blonde streaks or streaks that are lighter than your natural hair color.
b. Lowlighting is the opposite of highlighting wherein certain sections of the hair are toned down to a darker shade.
(Foiling and using a cap are used to apply colors for highlighting and lowlighting.)
